“Exceptions” are not Compassionate, Nor Effective

Picture of Alexia. Am I not a Person

For over 30 years the Lord has had me diligently laboring to protect women from abortion.  Initially, I   thought that legislation “with exceptions for rape and incest” must be the most compassionate, because Christians kept introducing it in their legislation.

But when I listened to women who had been raped, I was hearing a different   story:

The women who made adoption plans for their babies said that giving the gift of life to an infertile couple was what healed their pain.

The women who chose abortion said that in retrospect the abortion was worse than the rape.

To help me clarify these issues I sought counsel from Care Net Director Sue Chess.  She explained to me that the grief from an abortion is actually more difficult for a woman to heal from than the rape itself.  She further explained that “exceptions” created dangerous loopholes – actually the rhetoric of “exceptions” was what created the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade in the first place![1]

I obtained further counsel from another crisis pregnancy center director, Wanda Kohn.  She explained that,

“Exceptions are damaging to the very definition of personhood.  Personhood is what all unborn babies deserve!”  She cited Deuteronomy 24:16, ‘Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.’  Therefore unborn children should not be aborted because of their parent’s moral sin.

So I began to do further research and found Shauna Prewitt’s legal note.  She is an attorney who was raped.  She documents that in the 1960’s pro-abortion forces began to strategize and actually formulated the whole “exceptions” rhetoric because they knew that America would never accept abortion as long as it was seen as ending motherhood.[2]

When I spoke to another attorney who had been raped, she was sobbing on the phone that when she got pregnant from being raped, she could not find one person who would stand with her in her decision to have her baby. All told her to go have an abortion, because she had been raped![3]

The truth is that 70% of women who have been raped choose to have their babies.  Of the other 30%, most are being funneled into having abortions by …..  Sadly, even our police department officials, doctors, Christians and pro-life advocates think this is what they should do.[4]

Even if some of those women are so bitter that they want to choose abortion at the time, don’t they deserve the love and caring of a pregnancy care center, especially in this time of trauma!  Be it far from us, as the people of God, to send them to a house of horrors such as Gosnell’s – which many people are discovering during his trial. Other abortion mills are not much better.[5]

We have known for four decades now that we must repent from the shedding of innocent blood. It is amazing to me that we have not been judged already for these tiny 56 million innocent lives that have been brutally and systematically exterminated.  But we need to also repent for turning our back on what God calls the “widows and orphans.”  These Biblical terms certainly include the raped women and their babies.  We, the church, “Christians” have in many ways turned our backs on them and we will not go unpunished, if we do not repent.[6]  If we want His blessing, we need to be sure that we are taking care of what is most precious to Him.[7]

Furthermore, we cannot end abortion by continuing to use the rhetoric of pro-abortion strategy!  Presently Roe is a bad Supreme Court decision.  If Christians understood Biblical law which is so fully expressed in our Constitution, we would have screamed, “Treason” and would have demanded that those Supreme Court justices be impeached.  How dare they “decide” that any people group in America are not “persons” and allow them to be considered “property.”  The same huge wicked decision was made with Dred Scott, the 1857 decision that said basically that African Americas were “non-persons” and could be considered “property.”  But Dred was never overturned, it was amended.  In the same way, we do not have to “overturn Roe.”  This is good news.  We do not have to hope that we can get a better supreme court.  We do not have to let Roe be considered “the law of the land”.  How un-Constitutional![8]

God’s Word promises us in 2 Chronicles 7:14-16 that, “Then if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.  My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to every prayer made in this place.  For I have chosen this Temple and set it apart to be holy—a place where My Name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart.”

We can educate ourselves to the Biblical and the Constitutional responsibility that we have to demand justice in our land.  We can labor to amend Roe, as Dred was amended.  We do not have to be afraid of the Supreme Court any longer.  We do not have to acquiesce to their tyranny any longer.  We can re-assume our responsibility as being “grateful to Almighty God for our constitutional liberty… among which are the right to enjoy and defend life…”[9] We can re-assume our political power as in Section 1 of our Florida Constitution and petition the government for a redress of grievances.  We can pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.  We can defend all shedding of innocent blood.  We can defend the orphans and widows, all of them.

We can do all this right now by signing the Personhood Florida petition.  We must rise up and carry this torch of allegiance to covenant with our Almighty God, to love what He loves and to hate what He hates.  We must find 700,000 Floridians to do the same, this year, or quite frankly we are in danger.  It took the Civil War for us to end the injustice of slavery.[10]

As George Mason warned at the Constitutional Convention, “Providence punishes national sins by national calamities…”  How much more should we tremble as Thomas Jefferson when he warned,  “Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever….”[11]  Hundreds of thousands of persons were lost to slavery and the same amount of Americans died in that civil war.  For us presently, we are guilty of the blood of 56 million.

So let us repent.  Let us fast. Let us pray for God to forgive us and to anoint us to amend this evil, wicked decision.  The Word of God promises us, “The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil.[12]

Sign the petition now and share it with your friends as if your life and the lives of your children and grandchildren depend on it.  Because… they do!![13]

  1. “Senator Skelos won’t be blackmailed to pass Abortion Provision”.

In NYS Governor Cuomo and the Democratic Party would be making a huge mistake to portray Sen. Dean Skelos's and Republican resistance to the 'Abortion Provision' as anything less then a reasoned concern for the right's of the unborn child and safety of a mother who will face many added complications from late term abortion; both physical and psychological in nature. There is room for discussion here, but not enough time to have a discussion which allows for all points of view this session. The pressure to include the 'Abortion Provision' in with the other nine WEA provisions under consideration was a decision made by the Governor to push the 'Abortion Provision' through under the umbrella of the other nine provisions.

I ask was it necessary to play this kind of hardball at the expense of the WEA legislation's other nine points being passed. In my opinion it wasn't necessary and Sen. Dean Skelos and the Republican in the Senate aren't going to buckle to this kind of manufactured pressure from the Governor. This winner take all mentality is befitting of a Governor who thinks Casino's all over the State are a 'Progressive' substitute for developing viable jobs in NNY, versus, a regressive liberalizing of gambling that will see families further impoverished in NYS. The bet it all Governor has bet it all on getting the WEA legislation through with an 'Abortion Provision' that troubles many voters in this State who aren't behind the idea of liberalizing access to late term abortions on moral grounds.

This administration isn't on very high moral ground these days, as woman continue to be 'Sexually' harassed in the Assembly, it might be wise to ask who really cares about the woman of NYS? Is it a Governor who keeps Speaker Sheldon Silver as Speaker to get this legislation passed at all cost, or a Sen. Dean Skelos who's asking what's the rush to pass the 'Abortion Provision' without paying proper attention to all its implications? I'm siding with Sen. Dean Skelos on the 'Abortion Provision' and key reason why is I'd like a voter referendum on the 'Abortion Provision' and some acknowledgment that its time to include voters in the legislative process concerning WEA issues.
